Evaluation Activity 2: Screen Capture

Chris Milner- Alex Cross

I feel that the main protagonist in our thriller has some comparisons with Alex Cross, the main detective protagonist in the detective thriller remake of graphic novel, 'Alex Cross'. This is because they are both portrayed as 'By the Book' detectives and both have similar roles in each film as the head detective in both films. However, the main protagonist in or thriller isn't in costume, but that is only because our group couldn't source them in time for the shooting. They are also portrayed as the lone cop in both films.

Evaluation Activity: 1

The Title of the Film, Font, Style & Effects:

The title of the film is 'Blood From A Stone'. The font used in the clip is 'Cracked'. The effects used on the titles in the clip is 'Block Dissolve'.

Settings/ Location:

There are two locations in the clip. One is a secluded woodland area which I think is is good for the purpose of the scene because it is quite sinister, secluded and hidden from any main path. The other location is a science lab which is a good location because I was attempting to make a Forensics scene.

Costume and Props:

The costume in our clip is not the best. There's basically nothing however, I couldn't source all the costume as all of the timescale was planned in haste. The props used I feel are relevant to the scene and used effectively.

Story and how the opening sets it up
Genre and how the opening suggests it
Image Control & Lighting

Image control and lighting was one of the most important parts of editing so that the correct atmosphere was created to portray the direct genre of a thriller. Each frame had to have dark lighting to create the unsettling atmosphere
The opening frame to our thriller film shows a forest with police tape, clearly letting the audience know that it's a scene of a crime which fits one of the conventions of a thriller. The police tape shows that there is some sort of mystery to be solved and that a detective will be present, these aspects also fit the conventions of a thriller
